About Us
We are a fourth section band and pride ourselves in being
entirely 'amateur' in terms of our members (though hopefully, not
in the way that we approach our music making!)
We currently have 24 regular playing members (plus a junior
learner group) and are fortunate to have our own rehearsal room in
Frampton Community Centre. We play a wide variety of music
from 'traditional' marches and arrangements of the classics through
to music from the shows together with popular modern music. (Oh and
carols - yes we do play a few of those as well!).
Our annual engagement list is usually quite hectic and includes
the traditional village fetes, as well as Sunday afternoon
concerts in Cheltenham and Stroud parks. More local to home,
we hold concerts in both Frampton Village Hall and Frampton
Community Centre and we regularly play at the annual Frampton Country
Fair. You may also have heard us at the very popular Saul Boat
Gathering organised by theCotswold Canals Trust -
always a great day out for everyone. Additionally, we have
been known to appear in disguise as a large part of the 'C M
Downton Severnside Brass' at Frocester Beer Festival - have a look
at the page dedicated to 'Our President' for details.
We try to organise a band tour of some description every other
year; everything from camping in South Devon to going overseas
(well, the Isle of Wight!). But better than this (not that we
dislike the Isle of Wight), Frampton is twinned with the village of
Bourgbarre in Brittany and, as guests in Bourgbarre, we have played
in some really great locations, notably the city square of Rennes
with the mayor in attendance.
Of course there is the usual round of Christmas engagements -
goodwill evenings at local garden centres (warm!) plus carols
around the village and for customers at local supermarkets (usually
cold!). Amongst our favourite engagements are the carol concert
(held in a converted barn in Moreton Valence) in aid of The
Children's Society and the annual concert / social evening of the
Gloucestershire Wine Circle. We are also fortunate to have a
close link with Leonard Stanley church and playing for their
'Carols by Candlelight' is always a pleasure. And finally, if
you can stand the pace, come out with us in Frampton on Christmas
Eve - guests at two private parties and finishing at The Three
Horseshoes (very warm, alcoholic and some 'serious' carol singing
here!).
Although not a contesting band by nature, as members of
the Gloucestershire Brass
Band Association we make every effort to enter the Annual
Entertainments Contest, now held in February at the Royal Forest of
Dean College - 2nd in our section last year and, in our past we
even won on a memorable occasion when the contest was held in
Stroud!
We are always pleased to welcome new players of whatever standard
so if you like the sound of what we do why not come to one of our
rehearsals (Tuesday evenings - 7:15pm in Frampton Community Centre)
or contact a member of the commitee.
